March 16, 2020
Dear SCVA club directors, coaches, athletes, and families,
The SCVA is actively monitoring the current situation regarding COVID-19. Our priority is the health and safety of our attendees and athletes. The SCVA is aware of the most recent decisions made by multiple collegiate conferences which are cancelling their conference tournaments, along with the cancellations of multiple USAV National Qualifiers. In addition, it has been recommended that certain establishments close, while other operate at limited quantities. In Anaheim, theme parks, sports and entertainment venues, the Anaheim Convention Center are temporarily closed.
As a result of the above recommendations and restrictions, the SCVA has postponed the following events:
- Girls 12s – Mandatory 2 – Saturday, March 21st
- Girls 13s – Mandatory 2 – Sunday, March 22nd
- Girls 14s – Mandatory 2 – Saturday or Sunday, March 21st or 22nd
- Boys 12s – Points Tournament – Saturday, March 21st
- Boys 14s – Points Tournament – Saturday, March 21st
The SCVA will attempt to reschedule these events as soon as possible.
In addition, per USA Volleyball, there is a ban on all sanctioned events, including but not limited to tournaments, practices, individual training session, and team bonding, until March 31st.
The SCVA offices will be closed the week of March 16th due to COVID-19. The re-opening of the SCVA offices will be re-evaluated at the end of the week.
The SCVA will tentatively start regional events again on April 18th and 19th. On this weekend, the SCVA tentatively host the Girls 18s Mandatory, Girls 16s Mandatory, and Girls 15s Mandatory.
It is with great sadness that the SCVA will also need to postpone the Red Rock Rave 1 and the Red Rock Rave 2. Some of our clubs, teams, athletes, and families may be disappointed in this postponement, however the SCVA hopes that this will help keep our community safe by limiting the exposure that could occur at the venue.
The MGM casinos are currently closed for two weeks so that all equipment, furniture, carpets etc. can be cleaned and disinfected.
The SCVA has rescheduled the Red Rock Rave for May 8th – 10th. The SCVA will host all age divisions on this one weekend, and will be awarding bids for the 11 and under through the 17 and under age divisions. The SCVA will also offer a non-bid event for 18 and under teams. The field sizes will be restricted as the event will be on one weekend instead of two. The event will be open online for registration on Wednesday, March 18th. Once entered, you can email the office and have the funds transferred from the original Red Rocks to the new event. The MGM properties have agreed to transfer reservations, if they have not already been cancelled. If you need assistance with the transfer of reservations, please contact KC Sports Housing at (800) 775-7244. If your club and or team opts to not attend the newly re-scheduled event, the SCVA will work diligently to issue refunds.
The SCVA hopes that all of our families remain safe and healthy during this pandemic. Please follow the guidelines set forth from the World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control and Prevention to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The CDC highly recommends the following actions be taken to prevent the spread of the virus:
- Avoid getting close to anyone coughing or sneezing.
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or your elbow if you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away, and then wash your hands.
